A Brief Moment of Clarity consists of four iterative and improvised sound performances which explore how contemporary art is portrayed through the lens of popular culture.
McLeish has collated as many references she could find from movies and tv shows; from the Andy Warhol episode of The Love Boat, to Pam’s art exhibition in The Office, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Ongo Gablogian’s destruction of a local gallery. This is how art is portrayed in mass media, sometimes good, sometimes well-meaning but misunderstood, and at other times devalued as junk. These clips overlap to create noise.
What can you hear through the noise? Maybe you can only hear yourself and your own opinion of art. What or who informs your perception?
Performances took place at IMA Belltower from 2pm on the 28th November, 5th, 12th, 19th December.
